MY ROLES

Here's what I do as founder.

BRANDING

I created and branded this group. I design all our collateral, keeping our marketing materials consistent with our brand book.

EVENTS

I come up with and promote all Otherhood events.I also lead a small team of volunteers, videographers, designers.

SOCIAL MEDIA

I promote all our events via social media as well as moderate posts in the private FB group.

STANDUP

I produce,  host a monthly Otherhood comedy show. Nothing brings a community together like telling the truth.

WORK

Everything from an inclusive Ramadan feast to a curly hair workshop to a monthly comedy show.

HOW IT STARTED

I wanted a real community.

I grew up in a close-knit, at times claustrophobic immigrant community in northern NJ. I often found myself wondering, if we were meant to be there for each other, why was there so much gossip? Where was the real support I'd heard about? And worst of all, if a community is left fragmented by reputation paranoia, how do we expect to hang on to our cultures, our languages, our sense of self, after our immigrant parents have passed away, and our main connection to our heritage is fading? Without a strong shame-free connection to one another, we can't expect to remain intact as a group. We stand to lose so much.  Why not band together?

PAST EVENTS

May 23, 2019
